Volunteering

Volunteering with NCC

Norwood Cycling Club events, like pretty much every bike race in South Australia, are run entirely by volunteers, and without these volunteers - there is no way these events could be run. Volunteering is a great way to give back to the cycling community. The more volunteers we have, the more ability we have to provide services to our members. NCC will aim to empower any of our members who come to us wanting to bring ideas to life. In addition to this, we know our members race a lot of different types of bikes. If this sounds like you make sure you support not just us, but ALL clubs that you race and ride with!

Volunteering with NCC can be as little as standing on a corner of a Crit on a Tuesday or Thursday night. However the club needs more than this to function, so if you are interested in helping in a more substantive way we would love to hear from you. Please email us at norwoodcc1883@gmail.com if you are keen to get more involved.

(Slightly) Bigger Roles

Race Day - Criteriums

Are you busy Monday-Friday but have happy to help out on race days occasionally (or have a partner/friend/parent/child) who might be happy to roll the sleeves up? Then we have a lot of race day roles that need covering by more than the number of people that we currently have.

If you are interested in any of these roles please get in touch via email (norwoodcc1883@gmail.com) or through our social media!

Roles that you could fill:

Non-Race Day roles

Are you not able to help out on event days? Then there are plenty of other jobs available to help behind the scenes.

General Requirements

All NCC volunteers who have access to membership data, or interact with our junior members need to have a current and valid working with children’s check which is available for free for Volunteers here. You will also need to be an AusCycling member (a free non-riding membership is available) and abide by the T&Cs, and policies of AusCycling which are available here.

Something else?

Have you got a skill that would be useful to help the club grow and provide more opportunities to our members? Please get in touch - as we’d love to hear your ideas!

  • Make sure that things run smoothly on race day. You’ll be responsible for making sure that all the volunteers are in place, that the course is set up and safe to race on, presentations happen and help troubleshoot any problems that arise.

It sounds more intimidating than it is. We’re running some apprenticeships over winter where you can learn from some very experienced people.

  • We have some club commissaires for the first time in several year. But we’d really like to have a few more! The rules might seem complex, but your main role is to make sure people start and finish safely, and make sure the results look correct.

You’ll need to do a short online module, and a practical assessment. The Regional Commissaire – Road is the course you’ll need to work through. You can find more information here.

  • We are developing some inhouse timing wizards. If you like being at bike races, and froth data or a good excel sheet – then this is for you.

You’ll learn how to start a race, arm the finish, correct placings with the finish line judge/commissaires, and make sure any riders who missed reads get corrected.

  • Help us organise our training sessions through administering EntryBoss, coaches, and delivery of our sessions.
